Miyazaki announced his retirement from feature films in 2013, but now he is thinking to come out of retirement for one LAST film! Indeed, he is confirmed to be back in action by the Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki.
During a pre-Oscars interview with Suzuki for “The Red Turtle“, the producer confirmed that the 76-year-old Miyazaki has un-retired and is currently in Tokyo working hard on his next feature-length film that he brought to Suzuki last summer.
Sukuki stated that Miyazaki approached him with 20 minutes worth of storyboards for a new film last July, to which he told him that the idea was “fascinating.” As for what the new feature film idea is, nothing is known just yet but there is speculation it could be an extension on the Studio Ghibli Museum short film “Kemushi no Boro (Boro The caterpillar)“, a project that Miyazaki has been planned for nearly two decades.
